When you visit our websites, among other things, we use the following statistical information to improve our Internet presence:
- Number of visitors of the individual website
- Operating system and browser used
- Internet provider, access date and time
Google Analytics
The BENTELER Group uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service of Google Inc. (“Google”), to evaluate the use of this website. The operating mode “Universal Analytics” is used. This makes it possible to assign data, sessions and interactions cross-device to a pseudonymous user ID and thus to investigate the activities of a user on different devices. Reports are compiled for BENTELER on your website activity so as to be able to adapt the Internet site to your needs. Google Analytics uses so termed "cookies", text files that are stored on your computer and enable analysis of your use of the website. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is usually transferred to a Google server in the US and stored there. As assigned by the manager of this website, Google will use this information in order to evaluate your use of the website, to collate reports on website activities and to provide further services to the website manager related to use of the website and of the Internet.
Cookies
Cookies are small files that enable the storage of specific device-related information on users’ access devices (PC, smartphone or similar device). Firstly, they are used to make websites user-friendly and for user-related purposes (e.g. storage of login data). Secondly, they are used to record statistical data relating to website use and to analyze the website for the purpose of improvement. Users can control whether cookies are used. Most browsers have an option whereby the storage of cookies is restricted or prevented entirely. However, we would like to point out that use and particularly user comfort will be restricted if cookies are not used.
You can manage many corporate online ad cookies via the American web page http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or the EU web page http://www.youronlinechoices.com/uk/your-ad-choices/.
Protection of your personal data
The IP anonymization feature has been activated for Google Analytics for protection of your personal data, ensuring that no connection to a particular user can be established. When the IP anonymization feature is activated your IP address will be abbreviated by Google within the member states of the European Union or in other states that are members of the European Economic Area before being sent to a server. The full IP address is only transmitted to a Google server in the US and abbreviated there in exceptional cases. The IP address transmitted from your browser within the framework of Google Analytics will not be amalgamated with other data from Google. Should we possess further personal data on our website users, we will not amalgamate these with website tracking data or other non-personal data.
For further information about Google Analytics Terms of Service and Privacy, please visit https://www.google.com/analytics/terms/de.html or rather under https://policies.google.com/?hl=en.
Purpose of processing
Google, on behalf of the operator of this website, will use this information to evaluate your website usage, to compile reports on website activity, and to provide other services related to this website and internet usage to the website operator.
Legal basis
The legal basis for the use of Google Analytics is your consent in accordance with https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/ALL/?uri=CELEX%3A32016R0679
Recipients / categories of recipients
Google Inc. is the recipient of the collected data.
Data transmission to third countries
The personal data will be transmitted under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF) on the basis of the adequacy decision of the European Commission in the USA. The certificate can be found at Participant Detail (dataprivacyframework.gov).
Duration of data storage
After 14 months, the data sent by us and linked to cookies, user IDs (eg user IDs) or advertising IDs will be automatically deleted. The deletion of data whose retention period has been reached is done automatically once a month.
Affected rights
You can revoke your consent at any time with future effect by preventing the storage of cookies by setting your browser software accordingly; however, as the operator of the site, we point out that in this case you may not be able to use all functions of this website in full.
Objection to tracking web analysis (opt out)
You can prevent the storage of all cookies through the relevant adjustment of your browser software. However, please be advised that in such a case you might not be able to use all functions of this and of other websites to the full extent. In addition, you can prevent transmission of the data generated by the cookie related to the use of the website (including your IP address) to Google as well as the processing of these data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plugin retrievable under the following link: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
You can refuse the use of Google Analytics by clicking on the following link. An opt-out cookie will be set on the computer, which prevents the future collection of your data when visiting this website:
Use of the advertising functions of Google Analytics
Functions by Google Analytics which support interest-based advertising and advertising on the basis of surfing behavior of users are used on this website in addition to the standard configuration by Google Analytics. In this context, Google Analytics uses a third party provider cookie from DoubleClick for evaluating data on the surfing behavior of users on different websites. Using these data, statistical statements can be made regarding demographical data and areas of interest of the website users. You are expressly advised that we are unable to access any data on the individual user and the statistical data we use cannot be traced to any specific user. Some of our website visitors will have our advertisement displayed on other websites after their visit. This type of advertisement is called remarketing or retargeting. If you object to the placement of these ads you are advised to use one of the possibilities mentioned above for deactivation of the website tracking by website users. Google also offers the possibility of independent management of cookies for setting your own advertising preferences: http://www.google.de/intl/de/policies/technologies/ads/.
Social media
The BENTELER Group maintains online presence on social networks in order to communicate with the respective users and to offer a wide range of information. We have no direct influence on the processing of the data and therefore expressly point out that processing is also possible outside the EU. This may result in risks for users, e.g. because the enforcement of rights is made more difficult or the data is subject to another right. In general, however, we would like to point out that the operators of the networks are obliged to comply with EU data protection standards by providing the services in Europe. Furthermore, user data within social networks is generally used for advertising and market research purposes. For example, usage profiles are created, which are then used to specifically advertise the user. This is usually done by using cookies, small files that are stored on your device. However, user profiles may also include device-independent devices, especially if you log into the corresponding network. For detailed information on the stored data and the possibility of objection, we refer to the respective data protection declaration of the operators of the respective network. We also point out in the case of requests for information and the assertion of data subject rights that these can be asserted most effectively with the providers. Only the providers have access to the data of the users and can take appropriate measures and provide information directly. If you still need help, you can also contact us.

A connection to the YouTube servers is only established if you explicitly agree to the transmission of this data after clicking on the corresponding video.
In case you are logged in to your YouTube account when visiting our website, YouTube would allow you to associate your browsing experience directly with your personal profile. You can eliminate this possibility of assignment if you log out of your account with all your mobile devices beforehand. For more information about YouTube's collection and use of your data, please read the privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en&gl=en
Google Maps
This site uses the map service Google Maps via an API. The provider is Google Inc, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA.
To use the functions of Google Maps, it is necessary to store your IP address. This information is usually transmitted to a server of Google in the USA and stored there. The provider of this site has no influence on this data transmission. The use of Google Maps is in the interest of an appealing presentation of our online offerings and easy location of the locations indicated by us on the website. This represents a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO.
More information on the handling of user data can be found in Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en&gl=de
Facebook
Use of Facebook social plugins
This website uses social plugins (“plugins”) of the social network facebook.com, which is operated by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (“Facebook”). The plugins are recognizable due to one of the Facebook logos (white “f” on a blue tile or a “thumbs up” sign) or are identified using the add-on “Facebook social plugin”. You can see the list and appearance of the Facebook social plugins here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/.
When a user calls up one of this site’s web pages which features such a plugin, their browser establishes a direct connection with Facebook’s servers. The content of the plugin is transmitted directly to your browser by Facebook and integrated into the web page by the same. The operator therefore has no influence over the extent of the data that Facebook collects using this plugin and therefore informs users to the best of their knowledge:
Through integration of the plugins, Facebook receives information that a user has accessed the site’s relevant page. If the user is logged into Facebook, Facebook can assign the visit to their Facebook account. If users interact with the plugins, e.g. click the Like button or leave a comment, the relevant information is transmitted by your browser directly to Facebook and stored there. If a user is not a Facebook member, Facebook may still be able to find out and store their IP address. According to Facebook, in Germany only anonymized IP addresses are stored.
Please refer to Facebook’s privacy policy to find out about the purpose and extent of data collection, further processing and use by Facebook, your rights in this regard, and possible settings that users can make to protect their privacy: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/.
If a user is a Facebook member and does not want Facebook to collect data about them via this website and to link it to their member data Facebook has stored about them, they must log out of Facebook before visiting this website.
Users can make further settings and object to the use of their data for advertising purposes within their Facebook profile settings at https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=ads, or by using the American web page http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or the EU web page http://www.youronlinechoices.com/. The settings are made in a platform-independent manner, i.e. they are adopted for all devices such as desktop computers or mobile devices.
Facebook Remarketing / Retargeting
Remarketing tags provided by the social network Facebook, 1601 South California Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA, are integrated on our site. When you visit our site, a direct connection is established between your browser and the Facebook server using the remarketing tags. Facebook therefore receives information that you have visited our site with your IP address. Facebook can therefore assign your visit to our site to your user account. We can use the information obtained in this way to display Facebook ads. We would like to point out that we as the operators of this website are not aware of the content of the data transmitted or the purposes for which it is used by Facebook. You will find further information on this matter in Facebook’s privacy policy at https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/. If you would not like your data to be collected via a Custom Audience, you can disable Custom Audiences here.
Conversion measurement with the visitor action pixel from Facebook
With your consent, we use the “visitor action pixel” provided by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (“Facebook”), within our website. We can use it to track user actions after they have seen or clicked on a Facebook ad. We can therefore record the effectiveness of Facebook ads for statistical and market research purposes. The data collected in this way is anonymous for us, so we cannot see individual users’ personal data. However, this data is stored and processed by Facebook, which we inform you of to the best of our knowledge. Facebook can link this data to your Facebook account, and also use it for its own advertising purposes in line with Facebook’s data use policy: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/. You can enable Facebook and its partners to place ads both on and outside of Facebook. Furthermore, a cookie can be stored on your computer for these purposes.
This consent may only be given by users over the age of 13. If you are younger, we request that you ask your parent or guardian for advice.
Please click here if you would like to revoke your consent.
Communication over Facebook Messenger
This website uses Facebook Messenger provided by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (“Facebook”), as an additional communication method. The details and contents of the communication are processed using servers in the USA. Facebook also evaluates the communication’s metadata, but not the content of the messages, for advertising purposes.
Please refer to Facebook’s privacy policy for further details: https://en-gb.facebook.com/privacy/explanation

We would like to point out that we, as the provider of the site, do not get any knowledge of the content of the transmitted data and their use by WhatsApp.

Marketing Platform HubSpot
BENTELER uses the platform HubSpot (HubSpot Inc., 2 Canal Park, Cambridge, MA 02141, USA) as a marketing automation system. Where you provide us with your data (e.g. via contact or registration forms), we process it in HubSpot to communicate with you (e.g. by email or phone) and provide you with relevant information. This may also include recording your reading and click behavior in emails and on our websites and linking it to your contact record in order to make our communications more relevant to you. Processing also takes place in the USA; HubSpot is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) or, where applicable, our legitimate interest in customer communication (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). More: https://legal.hubspot.com/privacy-policy
Conducting Online Events (Microsoft Teams)
To conduct online events such as BENTELER Connect – Digital Days, BENTELER uses Microsoft Teams (Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, Dublin, Ireland; parent company Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, WA, USA). As part of your participation, we process, among other things, your name/display name, email address, IP address, and, where applicable, chat contributions. More privacy when recommending and sharing
Like all other websites, BENTELER uses buttons to recommend and share your posts on Facebook, Linkedin, YouToube, Twitter, Xing, WhatsApp and other social networks. This provides networking capabilities that allow you to recommend and share information with a single click. When using the standard functionalities of the respective network, personal data is transferred as soon as the page is loaded. For data protection reasons, we at BENTELER consider this to be questionable and have therefore decided to have the standard functions of the above-mentioned social networks activated by you before data is transferred. Please refer to the relevant section of this Privacy Statement for information on which data is collected by the respective network. BENTELER has implemented a two-step process for implementation. When loading the page, no data is transferred and the plugins/buttons are inactive. The plugins are only loaded by activating them with the slider or by clicking on the link "Activate social media services", which means that data is transferred immediately. This is then done outside the control of BENTELER. This means that data is transmitted exclusively at your request and with your knowledge. By clicking on the now usable and/or visible provider plugins, the desired information about the respective network or user profile is shared or recommended.
The MediaMath platform
Collection and use of data
MediaMath does not intentionally collect any data that may indicate your identity, such as your name, address, telephone number or social security number, when providing an ad through the Platform. MediaMath collects data about your computer or mobile device using cookies, web beacons or similar technologies as outlined below. This data is pseudonymized and is not considered personal data in many jurisdictions in which we operate. In some other jurisdictions in which we operate, such data, including IP addresses and other pseudonymous data, may be considered personal data in certain contexts.
The data collected by MediaMath includes general information contained in any communication sent over the Internet. We derive the following information, for example: Type of browser (e.g. Chrome or Internet Explorer), operating system (e.g. Mac OS or Windows), browser language (e.g. English or Spanish), IP address, Internet provider (e.g. Comcast or Verizon) and mobile advertising IDs for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
MediaMath customers may also use the Platform to collect information about your interaction with you, including your use of our customers' pages and apps, the pages and apps that our customers advertise, and other sites on the Internet. We may also collect additional data to calculate a statistical ID as explained below.
We may also receive accurate location data (as defined by the NAI) generated from the use of your mobile devices, such as latitude and longitude coordinates provided by mobile app developers or other media providers in connection with the purchase of advertising inventory. MediaMath can deliver accurate location data to customers and partners, including for use in targeted ads based on the current location of the endpoint. When processing the accurate location data, the publisher of the mobile app or other media provider is responsible for giving you the opportunity to give your consent or rejection in connection with the collection and use of your accurate location data.
We and our customers and partners use the data we collect to create data segments. These data segments are generally based on your interaction with our customers or other external media providers, such as the websites you visit and mobile apps you use. The categories of data segments vary, and our customers may use health-related segments such as derived interest in health and well-being, or cough juice or allergy medications. Click here for a list of the traditional health-related segments that come from external data providers and can be used in the MediaMath platform. Where MediaMath creates segments as a result of interactions within the EU, MediaMath UK monitors your personal data processed within those segments.
We also receive pseudonymous data from third parties if these are provided by them. This data may include identifiers (such as mobile ad IDs) and interest-based advertising data associated with the identifiers, including segments provided to our customers by external data providers for use in targeted ads through the platform. MediaMath does not use this information to identify you.
We may assign a MediaMath ID to your browser, computer, or mobile device if we display an ad there, or if we recognize it on a customer's website or app. The MediaMath ID can be stored in a cookie on your computer or mobile device. This allows us to develop an understanding of your interests and show you ads that are relevant to you. Using the MediaMath ID and other data collected through the Platform, our advertisers can also measure your activity on their websites and determine the effectiveness of their ads provided through the Platform. This information can then be used by our advertisers to better meet your needs and show you ads for the types of products and services you may be interested in. None of these technologies make it possible to determine your identity. Instead, they allow the platform to determine with a reasonable level of security that a computer or mobile device is the same as the platform was already dealing with. For example, the platform can detect that a computer browser or mobile device that displayed an ad on Monday is the same computer browser or device that was found to be a purchase on Tuesday.
In some cases, MediaMath is able to infer with a reasonable degree of probability that a particular computer or mobile device is associated with the same MediaMath ID previously assigned to another computer or mobile device. In other words, in these cases, we can deduce that one device (e.g., your computer) and another device (e.g., your smartphone) are used by the same user. In cases where we can draw such conclusions, we can use this data to provide targeted ads across multiple computers or endpoints, thereby improving the services we provide to our customers. This is sometimes referred to as cross-device advertising.
We use the data collected directly from us and the data obtained from third parties for the creation of segments, the execution of analyzes, the creation of targeted ads and the determination of the effectiveness of the ads for MediaMath's customers. We also use them to improve our platform and products and services for our customers, as well as to create new products and services. We may share the information with our customers, partners and service providers for these purposes.
MediaMath does not knowingly create data segments based on data that we classify as sensitive information (for example, we do not create data segments to establish creditworthiness, to take out insurance, or for similar purposes). and no segments of consumers in the EU based on personal data that are considered sensitive data in the EU, such as data on physical or mental health, sexual behavior, ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or similar beliefs), our customers may use the platform to transmit sensitive information that may come from customer sites or our partners. We take steps to ensure that processing is in compliance with applicable laws and self-regulatory requirements, including through our contracts and policies with our customers and partners.
Cookies, web beacons and other technologies for targeted ads
Like most digital marketing platforms, MediaMath uses "cookies," mobile ad IDs, and other technologies to improve users' experience on the Internet, serve relevant ads, and provide and track ads through the platform.
We use these technologies to detect computers or devices so that we and our customers can show you relevant ads, measure the impact of ads, and better understand and identify usage patterns of digital media.
These types of technologies used on the platform include:
- Cookies – Cookies are small text files that contain a number of characters. MediaMath uses cookies to uniquely identify an Internet browser. Certain browsers or browser settings may block cookies, which may cause cookies to not work effectively on some mobile devices. For more information about cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org/
- Mobile Ad IDs – Mobile Ad IDs (e.g., Apple's IDFA or Google's AAID) are unique IDs that are associated with individual mobile devices, but do not allow conclusions to be drawn about your real identity. These can usually be reset by the users.
- Pixel tags – Pixel tags (also known as web beacons) are transparent images, iFrames, or JavaScript that are used by our customers and partners to understand how consumers interact with them online, including on websites and apps.
- Statistical IDs – Statistical IDs are generated using an algorithm using pseudonymous data about your computer or device, including operating system, user agent string, IP address, Internet browser, installed fonts and similar data. This information clearly identifies your computer or terminal device so that our systems can reasonably determine that they are dealing with the same computer or terminal device, including in environments where MediaMath does not support cookies. If you want to see if MediaMath uses a statistical ID on the browser you are currently using, please go to http://optout.networkadvertising.org
These technologies are used to identify a computer or endpoint with a certain level of confidence, allowing the platform to function and display relevant displays.
Data storage on the platform
We store the MediaMath ID and, if applicable, its association with other devices for as long as necessary for our legitimate business purposes.
Cookies set via the platform expire within 13 months. MediaMath also deletes the browser data associated with your MediaMath ID within 13 months (for example, records of when we displayed an ad on your browser or found it on a customer's website or on a mobile device).
Opt-out
You can decline tracking and receiving interest-based advertising from MediaMath at any time using any of the methods described below. If you want to reject tracking and interest-based advertising by or from MediaMath on both Internet browsers and apps, you must do so separately for each browser or device using the methods described below.
Two reasons are against an opt-out
The free internet is supported by advertising. It is the primary source of revenue for most websites and app publishers, so they can create the content consumers want. However, not all ads that consumers see are relevant to their interests. Interest-based advertising is advertising designed to make the ads you see more interesting and relevant to you based on the types of websites you visit and other information that does not allow you to identify yourself. We use interest-based advertising on our website and work with our customers to enable them to work on their websites and apps.
You will see ads without interest-based advertising, but these ads probably have nothing to do with the products or services that are important to you. Interest-based advertising allows you to see ads and offers that are more likely to be useful to you.
There is also a second advantage: Companies that develop websites and apps need the revenue from interest-based advertising to support the wide range of content they develop. Without this revenue, the content would either not be available to consumers or consumers would have to pay for it.
What does opt-out mean?
In general, "opt-out" means that you want MediaMath to restrict the information that the company collects and stores about your computer or device and not display targeted ads on your browser or device that are tailored to your interests. Your "opt-out" applies only to the MediaMath platform and is not a contradiction to platforms provided by third parties. However, you can object to this at the same time for MediaMath as for many other third parties. Please refer to the following section "Further options for opt-out".
Use multiple browsers, computers, or mobile devices and want MediaMath to restrict the information that the company collects and stores about your computer or device. Or if you do not want to receive interest-based advertising from MediaMath on any of these, you must opt-out for each browser, computer, and mobile device individually. Please note that our opt-out mechanism may not work properly if cookies are not enabled in your browser or you use certain ad blockers. Please remember that deleting cookies is not an opt-out.
Opt-out on this browser (if a browser is used)
Your current MediaMath opt-out status in this browser is:
In the case of opt-out, we record the opt-out on our servers and try to set an HTTP opt-out cookie on your computer or device in browser environments. If you opt-out, MediaMath will collect and store only the information from your browser or device that is required to take your opt-out into account, and for limited research and development purposes with a view to improving our browser and device detection technology, Which in turn helps us to consider your opt-out. In the event of an opt-out, MediaMath no longer sends interest-based advertising to this browser. Please note that you must renew the opt-out if you delete your cookies or use a different browser or device.
Opt-out related to mobile apps
You can opt out of mobile apps using the AppChoices app, which you can download from the App Store or from the Digital Advertising Alliance App Choices page here to your mobile device.
Please note that despite the opt-out, you will still see ads. However, the ads displayed through MediaMath will not be particularly relevant to you. If you opt-out, MediaMath will collect and store only the information from your computer or device that is required to take your opt-out into account, and for limited research and development purposes with a view to improving our browser and device detection technology, Which in turn helps us to consider your opt-out. In the event of an opt-out, MediaMath will no longer display interest-based advertising in mobile apps on this device.
